FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
What is CivicMesh?
CivicMesh is a community-owned, off-grid radio network that enables text messaging, location sharing, and emergency alerts without cellular or internet connectivity. It is powered by solar Civic Beacons and run by local sponsors and volunteers.
How do I get a node?
We plan pre-programmed mobile nodes for purchase, plus regular build-and-flash workshops. Sponsors can also fund scholarship nodes for residents in need.
Is there a subscription?
No monthly fees are required to use the mesh. Businesses may pay for premium setup services (fleet dashboard, private channel setup) and sponsors fund infrastructure through one-time tiers.
How is coverage planned?
We use LiDAR-based planning to place Civic Beacons where they provide optimal coverage across McMinnville, accounting for buildings and tree canopy.
How can businesses participate?
Businesses can sponsor beacons, join as Pioneer Founders, or purchase fleet trackers for private encrypted channels. You can even offer "Mesh-Only" coupons through our Daily Business Pulse!
Want to reward your customers and support the network? We are planning to host Mesh Treasure Hunts and community events. "Treasures" will be filled with donated items and gift certificates from local businesses to help drive foot traffic to your shop.

When will the network be ready?
The network is being built in three exciting phases! We are currently in Phase 1, launching the "Pioneer Five" Solar Beacons to establish the city’s backbone. Because the mesh is "self-healing," the network gets bigger and stronger every time a new neighbor or business joins the grid!
